As the waters receded and the dampness dissipated, the damage that hurricane Harvey presented to Houston hangs over our heads and still weighs heavy on our hearts. While we rebuilt, we reflected on our gratitude for the nonmaterial things in life, understanding that our memories cannot be washed away.
When we think about what we would take with us in case of a fire or flood, besides our loved ones, old photographs are some of the first possessions that come to mind. Unfortunately, Harvey's severity came as a shock to many, and some Houstonians were unable to save those precious family photos while evacuating their home.
We asked the Houston community to nominate such families for an opportunity to connect with us for family photos. We helped our community by giving families who have lost their homes, their photos, a chance to look and feel good and recreate lost portraits. We could never replace old memories, but we can always celebrate survival and strength in our city.
#LOSTPORTRAITS was done ‘for the families of Houston’.
